Kite currently runs on Mac OS, but the Windows version is under active development. Join the waitlist here.

Both make screen recordings look great with automatic zooms and cursor smoothing. Kite goes further: combine multiple recordings, import your own media, and finish the video with 3D device mockups, text scenes, music, and AI voiceover. Kite is a local-first Mac app with optional cloud features which can be turned off (see "Data privacy settings" below).

Media files

By default, screen recordings and imported media stay on your computer and are not uploaded to any servers until you explicitly choose to do one of the following:

• Create a shareable video link
• Share them with your team on the Team plan (see team section below)
• Use an AI-powered feature that requires uploading media to our servers (e.g. the Kite AI agent feature)
• Send them to our support team for assistance

Kite project files

Kite project files (.kite files, which contain the info about how your videos are edited) are also stored locally on your computer. Some features (AI voiceovers, the Kite AI agent feature, etc) require sending bits of project file data to our servers for processing.

We also use standard analytics and logging tools like Sentry and Mixpanel to debug issues with Kite project files and keep things running smoothly. You can find more comprehensive info in our privacy policy or by contacting our support team.

Cloud sharing

We also offer a Team plan with cloud sharing for teams who need to collaborate on projects. On this plan, project files still start as local files on your computer, but can be optionally uploaded to the cloud for sharing with your team.
